LPN to RN Program
The Kalamazoo Valley Community College (KVCC) offers a comprehensive Nursing — RN Completion (LPN to RN) Associate of Applied Science Degree Program, designed for both new and current students. New students should begin by submitting a free, general application online and selecting “Health Sciences General Studies – Nursing” as their program choice. Current students need to ensure their program code is updated and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 for courses taken at KVCC.
Admissions requirements include submitting official college transcripts, completing prerequisite courses, and scheduling an appointment with an academic counselor to develop a course plan. Prerequisite courses cover areas such as Human Anatomy & Physiology, Health Careers Chemistry, College Writing, Micro & Infectious Diseases, and Health Careers Math.
The RN Completion program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and approved by the Michigan Board of Nursing. Graduates are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam, leading to various employment opportunities in healthcare settings.
Applications are accepted annually in February for a summer semester start. The program has implemented ranking criteria for entry, requiring completion of prerequisites by the first half of the winter semester for eligibility.
The admission process includes an online application, completion of prerequisites, and documentation of LPN licensure and work experience. Admissions decisions for the summer program are typically communicated by March 31, with a maximum of 8 students accepted per application period.
KVCC’s Nursing program emphasizes a holistic admission system starting from the Summer 2023 application, promoting equitable opportunities for student success. Points for healthcare experience can be earned with proper documentation.
After acceptance, students receive important information regarding deadlines, healthcare license verification, and other requirements. The program strongly recommends minimal work hours during enrollment due to its full-time and rigorous nature.
The program follows a block schedule system, and the LPN to RN Completion curriculum spans three semesters, covering various nursing specialties. The total program cost, including prerequisites, tuition, fees, and materials, is detailed for in-district, out-of-district, out-of-state, and international students. Tuition rates per contact hour and semester fees vary based on residency status.
Overall, the Kalamazoo Valley Community College LPN to RN Completion program provides a structured and accredited pathway for LPNs to advance their nursing careers, preparing graduates for the NCLEX-RN exam and diverse healthcare roles.
